In the 1960s and 1970s he published four collections of poetry and his art work - sculpture, woodcuts, linocuts, silkscreens and paintings - were shown at more than twenty-four exhibitions, mainly in Johannesburg and Pretoria. By the late 1970s he had ceased to be productive and lived as a vagrant, before being granted a state disability pension on the grounds of chronic schizophrenia. He disappeared without trace in 1993.
