Wilson-Goldie (K.) et al. ART CITIES OF THE FUTURE, 21st century avant-gardes
336 pp., 4to., maps, b/w & colour illus., hardback, d.w., London & New York, 2013. R884
Twelve international curators each selected eight artists to represent the avant-garde of their particular city. The artistic centres represented include Johannesburg and Lagos.

"Each chapter begins with an introduction to the title city, including a brief background on it's artistic and political history in recent decades, and a taste of the conversations taking place there now. The subsequent artist profiles sketch a dynamic and intergenerational portrait of a set of colleagues working under common conditions, with concerns that range from the personal to the political to the global" from the preface.

Tracy Murinik is the curator of the chapter on Johannesburg. The artists she selected are Zander Blom, Dineo Seshee Bopape, Nicholas Hlobo, Moshekwa Langa, Serge Alain Nitegeka, Tracey Rose, Minnette VĂ¡ri and Kemang Wa Luhulere.
