Sculptor, painter and printmaker Ernest Mancoba was born in 1904 in Johannesburg. He left South Africa in 1938 for Paris. He died in 2002.

Kudzanai Chiurai's "State of the Nation" exhibition dealt with the subject of revolution. The articles in this edition of Lines magazine address the theme of revolution and question the status quo of South Africa, and Africa as a whole.

Contributors include Charles Nhamo Rupare, Sean O'Toole, Lucky Makena, Sindi-Leigh and Tenielle McBride. Also includes a selection of photographs by Chris Saunders and drawings, paintings and photographs from Chiurai's "State of the Nation" exhibition.

Kudzanai Chiurai was born in 1981 in Zimbabwe. Currently he lives and works in Johannesburg.
