Thereafter he studied at the Munich Academy of Arts and attended master classes at Oskar Kokoschka’s School of Vision in Salzburg. On his return to Cape Town he exhibited widely and was chosen to represent South Africa in international exhibitions but in 1960 he left South Africa to permanently settle in London. He taught at schools in the East End until 1979 when he was appointed to the staff of the City University, where he lectured in art history for 18 years.
