This series of eight books introduces young people to art through looking at many different South African artists and their work, from the first artists to artists working today. Designed to be used in the classroom by students 11-15 years of age (corresponding to the Senior Phase in South African schools and Middle School in other countries). Can also be used at home, in museums and galleries, and by adults wanting to learn more about art.

Ruth Sack is Director of the Imbali Visual Literacy Project, an accredited craft and design training organisation that trains youth and women from disadvantaged backgrounds to become craft entrepreneurs. They also train art teachers and develop resources for arts education. The project was launched 29 years ago, is based in Newtown, Johannesburg and works in Gauteng and several other provinces in South Africa.
