Masixole Feni was born in 1987 in Cape Town, grew up in an orphanage, and currently lives as a 'backyard dweller' in the Mfuleni settlement near Khayelitsha. He was introduced to photography at a young age by the late Garth Stead and his Icon Photography Group, and through Jenny Altschuler's 1999 Drumming Photography Workshops at the Iziko SA Museum.
