Herman Mashaba's chief of staff, Michael Beaumont, discusses South African businessman Herman Mashaba's time as mayor of Johannesburg. Mashaba became mayor in August 2016, heading a DA-led coalition in the city. In October 2019 he resigned from the party and from his position as mayor. Beaumont describes what went on behind the scenes in the coalition and highlights the infighting and factionalism within the DA. After the collapse of the coalition Mashaba formed a new movement, The People's Dialogue, with the goal of setting up a new political alternative in South Africa, and Beaumont joined him.
