Foster is the subject, photographer and producer of the film My Octopus Teacher, directed by Pippa Ehrlich and James Reed, which won the 2021 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. His other documentary films include The Great Dance: a hunter's story and Into the Dragon's Lair. He took the photographs for the book Sea Change, return to the wild, written by Ross Frylinck. He lives in Cape Town.
