Zimbabwean writer Dambudzo Marechera was born in 1952 in Rusape, Zimbabwe. His collection of short stories, House of Hunger, was awarded the 1979 Guardian Fiction Prize. His novel The Black Insider; Cemetery of Mind, a collection of poetry, and The Fear and Loathing Out of Harare, a selection of essays, were published posthumously. He died from HIV-related pneumonia in August 1987.
