Blombos is a remote stretch of privately-owned coastline on the Southern Cape coast mainly known for angling.

In 1997 Professor Christopher Heshilwood, an archaeologist whose family acquired land at Blombos in the 1930s, discovered a small red etched stone in a cave on his grandfather's farm. Archaeologists date it back 77, 000 years and continue to excavate at Blombos, where they have discovered deposits believed to be between 100 000 and 72 000 years old.
