In 2010 Andy Kawa was assaulted by several men on King’s Beach in Port Elizabeth. Her attackers were never caught. Kawa sued the police for failing to properly investigate the attack. Although Justice Sarah Sephton found police officers were "grossly negligent", the police appealed, and the Supreme Court ruled in their favour. Kawa has begun her appeal to the Constitutional Court.
