Zirk van den Berg was born in Walvis Bay and grew up in the Cape. His novel, 'n Ander mens (2013), was awarded the kykNET- Rapport prize in the film category. The film was released in 2019. In 2020 he was awarded the WA Hofmeyr Prize for his novel Ek wens, ek wens. His other novels include Hemel en aarde en ons, Geheim van die gruwelsand, Die Vertes in, Een of ander held and Die onsigbare pou. He is also the author of the memoir, Landuit, want jy wil mos.
