"Norman Levy was born in South Africa in 1929 and entered the liberation struggle at an early age. A defendant in the Treason Trial in 1956 he was later detained under the 90 Day Detention Law before being imprisoned in 1965 for three years under the suppression of Communism Act. Exiled for twenty-two years in the UK, where he taught history at Middlesex University, he returned to South Africa in 1990 to work on the transformation of the new public service.
