Picture book biography of Wangari Maathai, founder of the Green Belt Movement in Kenya in the 1960s, which focused on planting trees, environmental conservation, and women’s rights. She was the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

Gwendolyn Hooks is the author of 20 books for children, including Tiny Stitches: The life of medical Pioneer Vivien Thomas, which received an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work for Children. She lives in Oklahoma City.

Margaux Carpentier is a London-based painter and illustrator.
