In his autobiography Andrew Niikondo discusses his childhood years, his decision to join the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN), his military training, his 10 years of experience at the front, including his involvement in the Battles of Calulo, Lussusso and Quito Cuanavale, demobilisation, and life in the Namibian Defence Force.

Andrew Niikondo was born in 1962 at Onantsi Village near Ondangwa in the Oshana region of Namibia. In 1979, when he was seventeen years old, he left school to join the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia and received military training in the Tobias Hainyeko Training Centre in Lubango, Angola. He went back to school after independence, matriculated in 1992, and was awarded a PhD in Public Administration from the University of Namibia in 2008.
