Sarogoonam 'Saro' Naicker (nèe Naidoo) was born in 1928 in Durban. She married journalist, trade unionist and SACP member Marimuthu Pragalathan 'MP' Naicker in 1943. They were both imprisoned for their political activities and MP Naicker was one of the defendants in the 1956 Treason Trial. The couple went into exile in the UK in 1967, where MP Naicker was Director of Publicity for the ANC External Mission in London. After her husband died in 1977 Saro Naicker stayed on in London, continued her volunteer work for the ANC, worked for the Morning Star, and later for the ANC journal Sechaba, where her husband had been editor. She also studied for O- and A-levels and in 1966 completed a BA degree in Sociology, English and Politics through Guildhall University.

South African-born Gonam Raju lives in Canada where he works as an online professor for Vanguard College.
