A little-known early series of 14 etchings by William Kentridge, titled Carlton Centre Games Arcade (1977).
In 1977 Kentridge was a first year student at Bill Ainslie's Studio in Johannesburg, and the Carlton Centre, a prestigious hotel and shopping complex owned by the mining company Anglo American, was where he began the process of observational drawing which led to his first prolonged engagement with intaglio printing.
South African art authority and researcher Warren Siebrits is compiling a five-volume catalogue raisonné of William Kentridge’s prints and posters.
