Nelson Makmo was born in 1982 in Limpopo Province. In 2003 he joined the Artist Proof Studio in Johannesburg. One of his portraits featured on the cover of Time magazine's "The Art of Optimism, 34 people changing how we see the world" special issue in February 2019.
