Multidisciplinary artist Kevin Atkinson (1939-2007) taught at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town, from 1971 until his retirement in 1999.

Marilyn Martin was Director of the South African National Gallery from 1990 to 2001 and Director of Art Collections for Iziko Museums from 2001 until her retirement in 2008. Prior to her career in the museum sector, she was senior lecturer in the Department of Architecture at Wits University. After she retired she worked as an independent writer, curator and lecturer. She is the author of Between Dreams and Realities - a history of the South African National Gallery, 1871-2017. She died in 2022.
