Hoberman collaborated with consultant pharologist, James Collocott of the Transnet National Ports Authority, who commissioned the book.

Includes additional text by retired lighthouse engineer Harold Williams, drawings of the lighthouses by Mellany Fick, and maps showing the location of the lighthouses and shipwrecks along the coast.

South African photographer Gerald Hoberman's books include Cape Town and Kaapse Klopse, Cape Town minstrel carnival as well as South Africa, a visual journey and South Africa's Wineland's of the Cape (with his son Marc Hoberman).
