Mzilikazi kaMashobane (c.1790-1868) is the founder of the Ndebele Kingdom. Originally one of King Shaka's lieutenants, he revolted against the Zulu king in 1823 and withdrew his people northward, first to Mozambique then to the Transvaal, before crossing into Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and finally southwestern Zimbabwe, where he established Matabeleland.

"This is a massive work on a great African leader. Molope has done meticulous research and delivered a very comprehensive account of King Mzilikazi kaMashobane. I have nothing but praise for this work." Professor Sabelo J. Ndlovu-Gatsheni, University of Bayreuth
