Memoir by South African dancer, choreographer and creative director Gregory Maqoma.

Born in Soweto in 1973, Maqoma started his formal dance training in 1990 at Moving Into Dance where he became Associate Artistic Director in 2002. He founded Vuyani Dance Theatre in 1999 when he was undertaking a scholarship at the Performing Arts Research and Training School in Belgium. Among his many awards are the Gauteng MEC Award for the group work Beautiful Us (2006) and the solo Beautiful Me, (2007); the Dance Manyano Choreographer of A Decade Dance Award (2011); the New York Bessie Award for Dance - Outstanding Production and Outstanding Music Composition for Cion: Requiem of Ravel's Bolero (2021)the Black British Award - Outstanding Production for Black Sun (2022) and the Artfluence Human Rights Award from the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in recognition of work that advances respect for human dignity, advocates for human rights and celebrates the human spirit (2023).
