Poems for children about fynbos, a fine-leaved, shrub-like vegetation found in the southern western and southern Cape. The idea to link fairies to specific flowers was borrowed from Cicely Mary Barker's A World of Flower Fairies, first published in 1923.
Fiona Moodie has written and illustrated many children's books, including Nabulela: a South African folk tale; The Sugar Prince, Noko and the Night Monster and The Boy and the Giants.
Antjie Krog has written three volumes of poetry for children: Mankepank, en ander monsters, Voëls van anderste vere and Vetplantfeetjies. She is the author of several volumes of poetry including Lady Anne (1989 Hertzog Prize) and Mede-wete (2015 Elizabeth Eybers Prize). Her non-fiction books include Country of My Skull, winner of the Alan Paton and Olive Schreiner prizes. She is Extraordinary Professor of Literature and Philosophy at the University of the Western Cape.
