This collection of essays examines the structures and ideologies shaping higher education, challenging the taken-for-granted 'goodness' of universities and the academy and offering alternative, transformative ways to engage with higher education across disciplines.

The authors explore the conditions necessary for advancing Critical University Studies, drawing on case studies from Canada, Germany, India, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, examine the systemic barriers faced by marginalised academic communities, and emphasise the importance of resistance in shaping knowledge production and academic identities.

Dina Zoe Belluigi is Professor of Authorship, Representation and Transformation in Academia, Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Visiting Professor at the Chair for the Critical Studies of Higher Education Transformation, Nelson Mandela University.

André Keet currently holds the Research Chair for Critical Studies in Higher Education Transformation and is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Engagement and Transformation at Nelson Mandela University.
