Foreword by Dr Naledi Pandor.

When Professor Brian O'Connell was appointed Vice-Chancellor and CEO of the University of the Western Cape in 2001 the institution was financially bankrupt with a debt in excess of R100-million and had less than 10 000 students. When he retired in 2014 student numbers had increased to over 20 000, the institution was financially sound and acknowledged as a research-led university.

Ramesh Bharuthram was Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic at the University of the Western Cape from 200 to 2014.

Larry Pokpas is Institutional Planner and Executive Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor.
