David Hilton-Barber was born in Grahamstown, studied at Rhodes University and worked first as a journalist, and later as a public relations consultant. He served as President of the Public Relations Institute of South Africa and as council member for South Africa on the International Public Relations Association. He retired to Tzaneen to his wife Tana Tooley’s family farm, where they developed the Kings Walden gardens and guest house. In 2010 he established Footprints Press to publish non-fiction historical works by South African authors. He is the author of a number of historical works, including The Triumphs, Trials and Tribulations of Ponele Seshai as a Magistrate in the new South Africa, The Batubatse: their story and traditions and Matabele Rising. He lives in Hermanus.
