South African jazz composer, double bassist, pianist and vocalist Johnny Mbizo Dyani (1945-1986) was a member of South Africa's first integrated jazz band The Blue Notes. In 1964 the band members left South Africa. Dyani performed widely throughout Europe and recorded many albums under his own name. He settled first in Copenhagen, Denmark, and later in Sweden.
