 Fransjohan Pretorius is Emeritus Professor in the Department of Historical and Heritage Studies at the University of Pretoria. His books include Terugblik, 80 sketse uit 'n ryke verlede, Scorched Earth and Life on Commando during the Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902, In 2019 he was awarded the Jan H Marais Prize for his contribution to Afrikaans as an academic language.
