A memoir by Namibian journalist Gwen Lister, who opposed South Africa’s occupation of Namibia. She and Hannes Smith started the independent weekly, the Windhoek Observer, in 1978. The Observer was banned in May 1984 after Lister travelled to Zambia to report on Namibian independence talks. Though the ban was lifted after an appeal, management demoted her. She resigned, and founded The Namibian in 1985.
