Elwyn Jenkins is Professor Extraordinarius in the Department of English Studies, University of South Africa. He was appointed to the National Place Names Committee in 1987, served on the committee that drafted the South African Geographical Names Council Act, and was appointed by the Minister to the new Council in 1999, where he served until 2003.
