Fransjohan Pretorius is Emeritus Professor in the Department of Historical and Heritage Studies at the University of Pretoria. His books on the Anglo-Boer War include Life on Commando during the Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902, In 2019 he was awarded the Jan H Marais Prize for his contribution to Afrikaans as an academic language.
