Military historian Leopold Scholtz is the author of The SADF in the Border War, 1966-1989; Ratels on the Lomba, the story of Charlie Squadron; The Battle of Cuito Cuanavale and Bondgenote en Dwarstrekkers, die Transvaalse en Vrystaatse regerings in die Anglo-Boereoorlog, 1899-1902. A former deputy editor of Die Burger, he also worked at Media24's European office. Scholtz retired in 2013 and is currently a research fellow at the North-West University's Potchefstroom Campus.
