John Laband is Professor Emeritus of History, Wilfid Laurier University, Canada. He was previously Professor of History at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. His other books include Rope of Sand, Zulu Warriors: the battle for the South African frontier, The Rise and Fall of the Zulu Nation and The Assassination of King Shaka. He lives in Greyton in the Western Cape.
