David Welsh taught at the University of Cape Town from 1963 until he retired in 1997 as Professor of Southern African Studies in the Department of Political Studies. He is currently Professor Extraordinaire in the Department of Political Studies at Stellenbosch University. He is the author of "The Roots of Segregation" and co-author with Frederick van Zyl Slabbert of "South Africa's Options".
