Anti-apartheid activist, historian and SACP member Sylvia Neame was imprisoned for 3 years in Barberton maximum security prison after being found guilty under the Suppression of Communism Act in 1965. On her release in 1967 she went into exile, first to Britain and then to East Germany. She is the author of the 3-volume The Congress Movement (2015) and the memoir Imprisoned (2018). She lives in Germany.
