Duncan Clarke on the private library financier, empire builder and former Prime Minister of the Cape Colony (1890-1896) Cecil Rhodes (1853-1902) curated at his home Groote Schuur in Cape Town. The house and library were bequeathed to the Colony and inherited by the Union of South Africa in 1910.

Duncan Clarke was born in Salisbury (now Harare) in 1948. His books include Zambesia, the literary safari; The Last Rhodesians, society adrift; Rhodes' Ghost: The conquest of Zambesia; Africa's Future: Darkness to destiny and Africa: Crude continent: The struggle for Africa's oil prize. He founded Global Pacific & Partners in 1978. In 2016 he established Royal Sable Publishing. He lives in the UK.
