Constance Nosizwe Nkonki was born in the rural village of Mpozolo, Eastern Cape, in 1935. She married fellow teacher, Garvey Gubhuze Nkonki (d. 1985), raised nine children, and served as a town clerk, a town councillor, and a school principal, while being actively involved in Christian ministry.
