Lawyer and civil rights activist Linda Kasonde on being a female leader in Zambia.
Linda Kasonde obtained her LLB degree in England in 2000 and was admitted to the Zambian Bar in 2001. She worked as an advocate at the National Legal Aid Clinic for Women and was hired by the law firm Mulenga Mundashi & Company in 2004 where she later became the first woman in Zambia to be promoted to named partner. In 2016 she was elected as the first female President of Law Association of Zambia and became known for using her public platform to defend constitutional democracy, civil liberties and the rule of law. When her term ended she returned to private practice and in 2019 founded the Chapter One Foundation, an organisation dedicated to promoting and protecting civil liberties.
