Former Springbok and Bulls flyhallf Derick Hougaard was born in Citrusdal in 1983. In the 2002 Currie Cup final against the Golden Lions, Hougaard broke Nass Botha's 15 year record for points scored in a Currie Cup final by scoring 26 points which earned him the name 'Liefling van Loftus' (Sweetheart of Loftus Versfeld Stadium). He first played for the Springbok team at the 2003 Rugby World Cup. However, a series of injuries forced him to retire from the game. In the last years he has struggled with an addiction to prescription medication.

Multi-media sports journalist Brenden Nel has covered international sport, especially rugby, for more than 20 years, including more than 200 Test matches and four Rugby World Cups.
