"... celebrates the many achievements of athletes and everyone connected to the sport during South Africa's period of apartheid and sports isolation (pre-1994)" from the author's introduction

"Written with admirable clarity and based on painstakingly meticulous research, this attractive slice of athletics history breathes life into a vivid world of human talent and achievement which has been long overlooked or even forgotten. Packed with richly informative and evocative words and images, Other Side of the Track is not just a pleasurable read. It is also a moving sports chronicle of people, places and episodes, with a special resonance for anyone who grew to maturity in the difficult era which it revisits." Bill Nasson, Emeritus Professor of History, Stellenbosch University, and author of History Matters, selected writings 1970-2016
