Novel set in a small town in the Karoo post 1994. Three people, returning after many years away, meet their pasts when the Truth and Reconciliation Commission arrives.
"Red Dust is about truth and lies and the complex uncertainties that lie between these absolutes ... this is also a novel about the grotesque intimacy of the relationship between the aggressor and victim, the power between torturer and tortured that binds them together ... an excellent novel" Financial Times
"... a beautifully written novel, with the pace and twists of a thriller and the atmosphere, scents and space of Africa. Slovo has drawn a cast so vivid that these torturers, heroes and victims will live in your mind long after the book is closed." Guardian
Gillian Slovo was born in South Africa in 1952 and went into exile in England in 1964, where she has spent all her adult life. She is the author of the memoir, Every Secret Thing, and 11 novels.
