Poet, novelist, academic and diplomat Kofi Awoonor was born in the Volta region of Ghana in 1935. He was Ghana's representative to the United Nations from 1990 to 1994 where he headed the committee against apartheid. A professor of African literature at the University of Ghana, he was among those who died in the Westgate shopping mall terrorist attack in Kenya in September 2013. His works include the novel Comes the Voyager at Last: A tale of return to Africa, several volumes of poetry, including Rediscovery and Other PoemsNight of My BloodRide Me, MemoryThe House by the Sea and Until the Morning After, selected poems, as well as works of non-fiction.
