A collection of all of William Wellington Gqoba's writings, in Xhosa and English translation.

Wagonmaker, preacher, teacher, historian, poet, and folklorist William Wellington Gqoba (1840-88) served on mission stations as a catechist and ended his career as editor of the Lovedale newspaper "Isigidimisama-Xosa". He was the author of letters, anecdotes, expositions of proverbs, histories and poetry.

Jeff Opland is the author of "Xhosa Oral Poetry" (1983) and "Xhosa Poets and Poetry" (1998). He has also edited and translated Xhosa works by Nontsizi Mgqwetho and S.E.K.Mqhayi. An account of his long association with Yali-Manisi, "The Dassie and the Hunter", was published in 2005.
Pamela Maseko teaches Sociolinguistics and Applied Language Studies, with a focus on Translation Studies, at Rhodes University. She has translated and adapted various literary fictional and non-fictional texts into isiXhosa.
