The final book in the Siegfried Bloch trilogy. Block is a former soldier seconded to the Kaiserliche Landespolizei in the Hochnamib in colonial German South-West Africa during the Herero War, which lasted from 1904 to 1907. The first two books in the trilogy are Die Vertes In and Tweegevreet.

Zirk van den Berg was born in Walvis Bay and grew up in the Cape. His novel, 'n Ander Mens (2013), was awarded the kykNET- Rapport prize in the film category. The film was released in 2019. In 2020 he was awarded the WA Hofmeyr Prize for his novel Ek Wens, Ek Wens. He lives in New Zealand.
