Afrikaans author Jeanne Goosen's short piece on the month she spent in Nieu-Bethesda in 1992 trying to write after winning Athol Fugard's Helen Maartens Fellowship. She took her housekeeper Agnes Morao along with her and gave her a notebook and a pen so that she could also write. Agnes' book is included in this publication.

Jeanne Goosen's books include the novels Plante kan praatOns is nie almal so nie, Pawpaw vir my darling and Daantjie dromer. Ons is nie almal so nie was awarded the CNA Prize, the Rapport Prize and the MNet PrizeHer play Drie eenakters won the Rapport Prize for drama and  Kombuis-blues won the Vita Award for drama. She was awarded the Sanlam Prize for her newspaper columns in Tempo. She died in 2020.
