A translation of Shaykh Yusuf's Arabic writings on Sufism.

Abadin Tadia Tjoessoep (1626–1699), known as Yusuf of Macassar, resisted Dutch expansion into Indonesia and was exiled to the Cape Colony in 1693. The farm Zandvliet, outside Cape Town, where Yusuf settled with his entourage, became a sanctuary for slaves and it was here that the first Islamic community in South Africa was established.

Yousuf Dadoo is Emeritus Professor at the University of South Africa (UNISA), where he has taught Arabic and Islamic Studies for nearly three decades.

Auwais Rafudeen is Associate Professor in the Department of Religious Studies and Arabic at the University of South Africa (UNISA).
