"The poet's luminous and restrained language, her control of stanzaic form, sharpness and verb choice and beveled rhythmic sequencing acquire the quality of what Edith Wharton in Summer called a 'desolate lucidity'." from the back cover

Ingrid de Kok was born in 1951 in Stilfontein, a gold mining town in what was then the Western Transvaal. She is the author of six collections of poetry collections, including Seasonal Fires, new and selected poems; Terrestrial Things and Mappe del corpo, a translation of selected poems into Italian by Paola Splendore. Her awards include the Herman Charles Bosman Prize for English Literature, the South African Literary Award, the Ritratti di Poesia Prize from La Fondazione Cultura e Arte in Rome and a Molteno Gold Medal from the Khula Cape Foundation. Vetplant Fairies, in collaboration with poet Antjie Krog and artist Fiona Moodie, was published in 2022.
