Thato Sebastian-Charles Mmereki explores what he became to survive the silence in his family and community around his older sister Audrey's mysterious disappearance without trace in 1997, when he was a very young child, and who paid the price.
"What Light Cannot Touch does what only the most serious literary memoirs dare: it refuses the consolation of resolution. Mmereki writes about grief and power and the price of becoming with a precision that is almost unbearable, and a prose style that earns every sentence. This book will last." Mandla Langa
