Environmental lawyer and academic Jan Glazewski was born in Paarl in 1953. A severe haemophiliac, at the age of 32 he tested positive for HIV from contaminated blood products used to treat his bleeding disorder. A professor in the Department of Law Institute of Marine & Environmental Law at the University of Cape Town, he was involved in ensuring the incorporation of environmental rights in both the Namibian and South African constitutions. He is the author of Environmental Law in South Africa.
