South African industrialist Harry Oppenheimer (1908-2000) was chairman of Anglo American Corporation for 25 years and chairman of De Beers Consolidated Mines for 27 years. He was the founder (along with Anton Rupert) of the Urban Foundation. In the 1970s and 1980s he financed the Progressive Federal Party, which later merged into the Democratic Alliance.
